Leadership Positions

Elections for next year’s officers will take place on Wednesday, April 12.  Students who wish to run for an officer position (President, VP for Membership, VP for Engineering, Secretary, Treasurer) should notify Mr. Volle no later than Tuesday, April 11.

Team 1209 will be organized into six different sub-teams: Entrepreneurship, Awards, Outreach, Media, Safety, and Design.  Each of these sub-teams will have a student leader, and any student who wishes to lead a sub-team is invited to apply at this time.  Job descriptions and qualifications are found below.  If you wish to apply for one of these leadership positions, submit a letter (no longer than one page) explaining why you would do a good job in that position, and a current resume to Mr. Volle, either as a hard copy or via e-mail to vollegr@tulsaschools.org.

The application deadline for all leadership positions is Wednesday, April 19.

Entrepreneurship

Sub-team duties:

  • Recruits new sponsors
  • Sends yearly thank-you and update letter to each sponsor
  • Publicizes robotics events via social media, press releases, school posters, etc.
  • Updates the business plan as necessary
  • Writes a weekly blog post for the website

Leader’s duties:

  • Assigns particular jobs to sub-team members
  • Teaches team members how to write press releases and blog posts
  • Is familiar with local media outlets
  • Knows the business plan and decides when an update is necessary
  • Maintains the sponsor list

Requirements:

  • Previous participation in Team 1209
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communication skills

Desired:

  • Experience with marketing
  • Junior or Senior
  • Experience maintaining social media

Outreach

Sub-team duties:

  • Plans presentations at Middle and Elementary Schools
  • Organizes Food Bank volunteer days
  • Recruits new students
  • Works with TU to organize FLL qualifier

Leader’s duties:

  • Assigns particular jobs to sub-team members
  • Contacts middle and elementary school teachers
  • Contact point for organizer of TU FLL qualifier

Requirements:

  • Strong organizational skills
  • Strong written and verbal communications skills

Desired:

  • Previous participation in Team 1209
  • Junior or Senior

Awards

Sub-team duties:

  • Writes Chairman’s Award Essays and Executive Summaries
  • Works with media sub-team to make Chairman’s Award video
  • Writes essay for Woody Flowers award
  • Decides what other awards to pursue

Leader’s duties:

  • Researches requirements and deadlines for FIRST awards
  • Assigns drafting responsibilities to sub-team members
  • Communicates award plans to team members

Requirements:

  • Strong written communication skills
  • Attention to detail
  • Previous participation in Team 1209

Desired:

  • Familiarity with video editing techniques and videography

Safety

Sub-team duties:

  • Keep lab area tidy
  • Write a safety plan
  • Give safety tips to team members
  • Work with media sub-team to make a safety animation

Leader’s duties:

  • Know where everything in the lab goes
  • Edit the final draft of the safety plan
  • Research safety requirements for FIRST competitions
  • This student will also be the Safety Captain at competitions

Requirements:

  • Attention to detail
  • Familiarity with all tools in the lab
  • Previous participation in Team 1209
  • Strong written communication skills

Desired:

  • Basic 1st Aid
  • Familiarity with computer animation programs
  • Strong verbal communication skills

Media

Sub-team duties:

  • Maintain team Facebook and Twitter accounts
  • Take photo and video of team activities
  • Maintain the team website
  • Work with Awards sub-team to make Chairman’s award video
  • Work with Safety sub-team to make safety animation
  • Maintain a database with photos and videos

Leader’s duties:

  • Assign team members to maintain facebook, twitter, and website
  • Assign team members to act as photographers and videographers
  • Regularly check facebook, twitter, and website
  • Communicate with Awards and Safety sub-teams

Requirements:

  • Strong verbal communication skills
  • Strong organizational skills
  • Familiarity with photographic techniques
  • Familiarity with video editing software
  • Strong computer skills
  • Previous participation on Team 1209

Desired:

  • Junior or Senior
  • Experience as a cameraperson or film director
  • Experience maintaining social media feeds

Design

Sub-team duties

  • Maintain team logo and color plan
  • Design t-shirts
  • Create banners and posters for the pit
  • Train team members in CAD

Leader’s duties:

  • Communicate logo standards to other sub-teams
  • Know deadlines for t-shirts
  • Know FIRST pit requirements

Requirements:

  • Familiarity with graphics editing software
  • Familiarity with Autodesk Inventor

Desired:

  • Previous participation on Team 1209
  • Previous experience designing shirts or banners
